Covestro Australia’s Managing Director Rebecca Lee has joined the board of Soft Landing Product Stewardship Scheme.
The Soft Landing Product Stewardship Scheme is designed to increase resource recovery and the diversion of waste from landfill to minimise the environmental, health and safety impacts of end of life mattresses.
Approximately 1.25 million mattresses currently find their way into Australian landfill each year. That equates to 20,000 tonnes of steel, wood and foam that can be otherwise repurposed. In additional to operating mattress recycling plants across NSW, ACT, VIC and WA, Soft Landing also offers employment opportunities to people who experience barriers to entering the open labour market.
“Rebecca is a passionate advocate for sustainability in business and we are excited to welcome her to the board of Soft Landing Product Stewardship Scheme,” said Michael Hunt, Managing Director of Thermotec and Chairman of the Board for the Soft Landing Product Stewardship Scheme.
As a plastics manufacturer, Covestro takes its corporate responsibility very seriously. At a local level, Rebecca and her team are passionate about ensuring a sustainable manufacturing industry in Australia. In particular, the initiative is a great example of Covestro’s commitment to People, Profit, Planet.
Janelle Wallace, General Manager of the Soft Landing Product Stewardship Scheme acknowledged that, “Covestro Australia has a strong sustainability focus and they are serious about reducing their environmental impact. Rebecca has pioneered Covestro’s involvement in the scheme as a founding member in 2015, and we are confident that she will add value to the Executive Committee and the Sustainability Sub-Committee.”
Congratulations Rebecca on your exciting appointment to the Soft Landing Board!
